    Laam Custom Seat

    Laam Custom Motorcycle Seats

I decided to send my seat to Seth Laam and have him do a custom build for me. I find the stock seat on my 2011 is good for about 70 miles. I do a lot of long distance riding and need something good for 500+ mile days. I know, I am trying to make a sports tourer out of the S3 and have successfully done so, except for the seat. I know that a Russell Daylong seat would do what I want, but I just can't put that on my S3, it is just too ugly. I am hoping this seat will work and if not my wife will give me hell about it LOL She has a Russell on her Z750s and it really doesn't look that bad.

I got a Triumph low seat off Ebay fairly cheap so I will still be able to ride while the stock seat is in transit.

I should have it back in 3 weeks as I am in Savannah GA and he is in Redding CA. I will give a review once I get it back. I have a 650 mile day planned on Dec 30th, 325 miles straight down I95 to eat lunch then back to Savannah. That will be a good test. I am getting black vinyl since I ride with a sheep skin on the seat anyway, no need to hassle with leather.

I will also post pictures when I get it in.

And I yours. I buy motorcycles to ride and like to cut up in the twisties, and it is 300 miles for me to get to them, so I want to be as comfortable getting there as I can. I have been riding 45 years and have found there is compromise in my choices of bikes. The Concours 14 was very comfortable and a supersonic transport and 150 hp and 97 ft lb of torque, but it also weighed over 700 pounds and a ton of plastic to take off when maintenance was required. I knew going to the S3 it would not be nearly as comfortable in the long stretch, but is damn sure fun in the twisties My 63 year old body needs as much comfort as possible to keep up with the youngsters :-)

I was just shittin' you man.

I've only ever had one custom seat: a Corbin, which IMHO was more uncomfortable than the stock seat it replaces (and about six pounds heavier.) Currently my Street Triple is the most comfortable bike I've ever owned. I think nothing of a 350 mile day. Could it be better? Probably. Is it worth my time worrying about it? Nope.

Personally, the most comfortable bike I ever sat on was a 2000 Tiger. A good bike, but not what I wanted.

On the other hand, I'm never more than 20 minutes away from a fantastic ride.

I used to live in Savannah and am now in Tampa. What is the planned destination for your trip? Heading South by chance?

Don't hate me because I can do this in about 5 hours.

And in about a month I should be moving up to White Salmon where this will be right outside my door, ready for an after-work scoot.
