    Hi From Melbourne Australia.

    Hi guys

Just about to pick up a 2002 speed triple, and have noticed it has an unpainted engine but has the black engine covers etc. I know that some daytonas of that year didnt have painted engines, (im not a triumpn expert) all the speed triples that ive seen have the black powder coated engine, Its done 25,000km and in unmarked original condition were there unpainted engines put in. can anyone advise.

    Many thanks

Sounds to me like you have either a Daytona engine swap, or a "Speed-Tona" conversion. All true Speed Triples had black engines, although a few of them had unpainted oil pans. It's relatively easy to make a Speed Triple out of a Daytona.

The Daytona engine had better internals (like forged pistons instead of cast, and such) so this might not be a bad thing. On the other hand, if it's been rebuilt then who knows what other problems it has?
I will never forget you, although I try very much to do so on a daily basis.

Wait, I think someone just farted in my pants.

I am of no help with the engine question, but welcome from the U.S.

Good luck and take a test ride prior to purchase.

    Cheers

Ok after further investigation it must have had an engine transplant sometime, there is always a reason that a bike is a lot cheaper that the set standards, dont think i will buy this one even though it looks very original, this would have been my 78th bike, over the 25 years of motercycle addiction ive ducatis, buells, cbx1000 hondas, harleys, R1 yamaha, hottedup 1200 bandit, eddy lawson rep, 750 h2 kawasaki, kawasak z900, honda 4, 750gsxr suzuki, gpz 900, gpz1100 all sorts of 4 cyl jap bikes, 2 stroke twins and triples and a few big road going dirt bikes. but never a Triumph, I will find a good speed triple yet.
