I might've wasted a bit of cash buying a new Shorai LFX18A1-BS12. I've been reading posts from people saying it's not ready for prime time yet.
I got LFX14A2-BS12 that started the bike once. People said you need the Shorai charger, after hooking it up, bike still won't start on it's own. Called Shorai, Shawn said the "off key" drain on the S3 was too much for the LFX14A2-BS12 and said I'd need the 18 instead.
When I hooked up my multi meter and tested for drain, I got 1.24mA, so that doesn't ring true.
My question.
Does anyone run a Shorai battery WITHOUT any charger, and have the bike start the first time?

**** those things.......
Yuasa batteries are all you need in stock application -- they are AGM and manufactured by a reliable company in PA. If you are after weight or space savings, I've heard good things about the SuperB lithium packs, but have not investigated the idea much myself and therefore cannot make any statements toward their reliability or function.

I've been planning on trying out one of the various new small format batteries in one of my old GSXRs, but had given up on the idea for the trumpet due to the constant draw from the instruments. It's bad enough that they already have shotty charging and starting components, I'd rather not have to have the bike living on a charger. Kinda defeats being able to take the bike on road trips and leaving it locked up outside a hotel over night.
If people have had other experiences, I'd love to hear it. Anything to shave more weight off the bike.

Got the 18aH one, no problems it cranks hard.
Do you ever have it hooked up to a charger?Originally Posted by Xenogenesis

Let it sit with the lights on for 15-20secs before cranking.![]()

Pete, I have mine on the charger when not riding. I don't know how it would work without the charger though. I had a bad experience with the first one which was the 14. They took it back and gave me the 18. No problems.
