    POST YOUR MAPS

How 'bout a spot localized forum where folks can link to some of their favorite roads via google maps or an analog...roads, conditions, points of interests. Something similar to some of the road sites like Lateral-G

    Angeles Crest Highway

    Los Angeles Metro

Road from La Crescenta through the Angeles National Forest. Closed seasonally due to snow

    Length of fun stuff:
33 miles to closure and 60 if open

    Road Surface:
Good to Sweet Baby Jeebus Good - gotta watch out for rocks in the road.

    Driveways/Crossroads:
    Low

    Cage Factor:
None early, usually completed drops off after first turnoff at Angeles Forest

    Squid Factor:
Weekends are brutal - lot's of kooks on sportbikes and cruisers later

    Gas Stops:
At the bottom of the hill - up and back all the way is 76 miles, 66 up to Newcombs and back, 60 all the way through.

    LEO:
You don't want to meet Officer Stout, the dedicated CHP, ahem, resource. Stout has an inferiority complex based on his antics over the past few years and is bipolar according to some folks. They will ring you up for anything - too fast, too slow, no reflectors, so be advised.

    Points of Interest:
Newcombs Ranch - Slow Service, Bad Food, Crappy Attitude, all the things we love about MC spots with captive clientele.

    Re: Maps by Locality

Added notes about Angeles Crest Highway.

-Weekend traffic before 9am isn't too bad. Ideal riding time for a practically empty road is to arrive ~7am and be done by noon at the latest.

-As long as I stay close to the speed limit in the 45mph section, the police have left me alone.

-Make sure you fill up before you start the road. There is fuel at either end, but 60 miles between stops. Running out of fuel with no cell reception isn't fun.

-When Biff says rocks, this often means fist-sized ROCKS. Sand and gravel strewn across the road from rock slides is common mid-corner, so take it easy.

Video of the full length of the road. Quite a few rock slides.

    LA to Newcomb's
    1-1

    1-2

    1-3

    1-4

    Newcomb's to Wrightwood
    2-1

    2-2

    2-3

    2-4

    >>>GLendora Mountain Road<<<

    Los Angeles Metro

Road that used to connect with ACH but is closed, cut's over to return to Mt.Baldy as an option. I'm not super stoked on the road to Baldy, no centerline but if you are careful to watch for oncoming retirees on their BMW GSs and LTs you should be OK.

    Length of fun stuff:
54 miles with Mt. Baldy loop, 30 miles without.

    Road Surface:
Fair to Good - Can be dirty, couple of patches in the blacktop, couple of tar snakes, and don't run the downhill corner wide or you become a skydiver.

    Driveways/Crossroads:
    None

    Cage Factor:
You will periodically find a big train of evos, wrxs, and miatas ripping it up. You will find bicycles

    Squid Factor:
    Can be pretty bad

    Gas Stops:
At the bottom of each entry exit/

    LEO:
I've seen cops up that way, been followed. It is pretty rare since it is a road to nowhere, really.

    Points of Interest:
You can visit the remains of my belly pan scrape. Also, there is a camping site that is right out of The Hills have Eyes on the way. FrmrJarhead would feel right at home there.

*Spotty cell phone coverage in many areas here...

I'm allowed to have an opinion and my opinion is I don't care at all for the useless, brain softening drab that you post up. If you dont like my opinion, simply ignore it. Ignore this thread. Its just my way of dealing with you.

Don't go away mad, just go the **** away.

    Re: POST YOUR MAPS

Why is this thread not more active? I understand a lot of guys like to BS on here, and that's awesome. Adds character to the site. But surely there are more riding roads in the states than these? Next time I'm home, I'm going to scout out highway 90 in southeast Kentucky. Accidentally took my rig through there once. Gorgeous road, lots of twisties, runs through a resort area, unbelievable views, but NOT fun in a 75-foot-long, 80,000 lb. truck. Once I get my bike out there, I'll post the details on here.
If at first you don't succeed, you're not as good as me.

I understand your point and I'd like to agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

    Re: POST YOUR MAPS

I finally made it out to AZ and got a chance to do some riding. Biff let me borrow his bike while I was out there. Grin

I actually rented it from these guys.

    http://www.goaz.com/bmw_ducati_ktm_t....php?brand=bmw

They cut me about 20% off (military) and let me have the bike the afternoon before the rental period started. So I actually had the bike over 40 hours for a one day rental. I also demod the Multistrada while waiting for the bike. Grin Great bike shop. They have a great deal where you rent a bike on Saturday and because they are closed Sun. and Mon. you return the bike on Tuesday and only pay for one day.

The first afternoon/evening I did this loop.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...738342&t=h&z=9

Fun roads and awesome views. I was on the bike about 45 minutes when the first photo speed trap flash went off. violent1 Hope they only get pics from the front! Shocked

Stopped at the Roosevelt Dam. Shitty camera phone. Everything was much more impressive in real life.

With a few stops that loop took me ~5 hours.

The next morning I did a loop up through Sedona and Flagstaff.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...75&ie=UTF8&z=8

It has to be some of the most incredible scenery in the world. Some great twisties on this loop also, but some of the road conditions were rough. These pics don't come close to capturing the scenery.

I stopped for a bit at Slide Rock State Park but didn't do the skivvies dip like Dirt.

A cool loop. There are some long straights but it was fun blasting through the desert at 140 MPH too. Be careful out in AZ though. I got pulled over on I17 doing 96 in a 75. wave
    Those guys are fags!
