When I first turn on the ignition key on my 97 Speed Triple fuel pump makes a few "ge-dunk", "ge-dunk" sounds along with the nice quite hum of the fuel pump. All sounds stop when system is pressurized. Does not do it when warmed up. Starts fine and runs great. Just wondering what this "ge-dunk" sound means. Any ideas?
Well, I guess I'm the only guy in the whole frickin' universe that has a T509 with a fuel pump that goes ge-dunk.. ge-dunk. No matter! I was just sittin' I my garage drinkin' about four New Castles, listening to Tin Lizzie ( "Whiskey in the Jar" is T509 music for sure) and the Cranberry's ("Zombie" is also T509 music) and admiring my Lucifer Orange T509.
I swear she is the best lookin' machine ever designed! Anyway I'm gonna dump a few ounces of Blenzall Castor oil in the tank to see if that smooths out the ge-dunk noise! Even if it does not do anything Castor sure smells righteous
T509s rule!!!

"you forgot the best part....being able to lick your own genitals." -Chewie"Laid it down" sounds so much gentler than "crashed horrifically"...almost as if he was tucking it into a cozy warm bed.
Mine doesn't make "de-gunk de-gunk" noises, but it's been noisy for the past 13 years and 83,000 miles. I tend not to worry about it much anymore.![]()

Well, When my low fuel light came on that meant about .98 Gal. of fuel left. I then added enough Castor bean oil for a 70:1 ratio. Ran great as usual and exhaust smell added about ten horsepower!... This morning no "gedunk" noise instead she sang: "Brrrrrrrrruuuppppiiiieeeeeee " before she stopped pressurizing. When I top up the tank I'm gonna do Castor at at about 200:1 After all I don't this three cylinder four stroke to start thinking is is a two stroke! Not that here is anything wrong with that.
Does anyone run stuff like Marvel Mystery Oil in their Speed triples??
I have determined that my fuel pump noise is temperature related. In the mornings when it is cold I get the "ge-dunk" noises. In the afternoon when my bike has been sitting where the sun comes through a window and hits it no noise. Just the quiet hum. " Happiness is a warm T509" -John Lennon.
Well now I have finally determined that my fuel pump just makes the "dunk" noise when key is been turned to "On" after it has been siting all night, Fine after being run. Must be haunted or something. Sure love the T509 bike thought!
Update, In case anyone was wondering it is still making the funny fuel pump noise at ignition key turn on 'till fuel pressurizes? There may be a check valve or something that is cranky Runs fine as always.
I miss bean oil and a little "MMO" won't hurt her either. Music, and
and
while spending time caring for your 509 is always a good thing.
Cheers
You think he's gone? He's not gone. That's the whole point! He's never gone!
My update: my pump has now been making funny noises for 87,000 miles. I'm still not worried about it.Originally Posted by sled
