Anyone ever broke a gear change rod connector?

With my 2007, it is sometimes a challenge to get into neutral. Just got back from a ride with my newly-licensed son (he was on the ST), and I told him not to worry about putting it in neutral if it didn't go right in. Of course, him being my son and all, he thought he would keep trying anyway (he can't help it - it's apparently genetic). Until we heard something pop.

Looking at the schematic while talking to the dealer parts desk, it appears you can separately order everything (including a $0.94 washer) EXCEPT the connectors that go on each end of the rod. I had to order the entire gear change assembly including the pedal - basically everything you see in the diagram - all to replace a single broken connector. There does not appear to be a direct identifier for just the connector on the diagram at all. Granted, it was only $91, but still....

Not sure if he was so busy watching to see if the "N" light came on that he wasn't paying attention to what he was pushing with his foot. Or if it just broke off simply from working the pedal. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen... Hopefully the part(s) will arrive on Wednesday.

The bolt was probably loose and wiggling back & forth long before it sheared. Very common problem for the joint bolts to come assembled half-undone from the factory.

The ends are just regular (M6 thread) balljoints. One end is left hand threaded and the other is normal. You could have replaced just the broken end with a $10 eye or balljoint of your preference:

I will look into this. I just got the bike a few weeks ago, and on my initial ride (about 200 miles), shifts were fine. Then I stopped for a bit to see a friend, got back on for the short ride home, and I couldn't even get it out of first. I'm thinking it might need a clutch lever/cable adjustment. Doesn't happen all the time.

I thought it had to be a part that could be purchased separately. I was even wondering if it actually came with one of the parts on the diagram, but it just wasn't itemized specifically. Thanks for the possible explanation and the link to McGill. If I could have picked one up locally here in Houston, I would cancel my dealer order. As it is, I will stick with it this time. This is extremely helpful. Thanks.

And to Night Train, your empathy is greatly appreciated, if not particularly useful.....

Went to a couple websites selling the Sunline shifters. I didn't see any listed specifically for Triumph. Is there a way to find out which one will work with the 2007 ST?
