My battery is being charge 12.8v at 1250rp and 14v at 2000rpm.
Im happy with 2000rpm and above voltage but is 12.8v a bit low for tick over?

No, most bike systems have a "sweet spot". My old Honda charges like shit until it hit 3k and above. 12.8 off idle doesn't sound that low. I'll look at what the manual says......
My other ride is your daughter!

my cb750 was the same way

I have upgrade the RR and connections. I didn't have a problem with any charging etc I just did the upgrade a precaution. I did the upgrade two years ago.
My haynes workshop book says at 2000rpm voltage should be between 13.5 to 15v but it does not give a voltage at idle and I recall some that have done an RR upgrade were getting 14v at idle but I may have got that wrong.

I'm thinking you better check that stator!

OK stator gurus please give me some time saving advise.
Do I do a simple voltage or resistance test on the stator or do simply take the cover off and have a gander at the stator?
If I take the cover off do I need to drain the oil or is there minimal oil in that area?
Apart from seeing blackened wire on a bad stator is there any other tell tell signs of an imminent stator demise?

OK weird things are happening in the land down under
I just did the following tests and all are exactly as they should be
I Recorded my battery voltage under the follow conditions
1) Ignition off, unloaded battery. = 13.8v
2) Ignition on, headlights on, not running 12.37v (steady)
3) Bike started, running at idle 14.05v – 14.07v
Now I’m trying to work out why I had such a low reading before and the only thing I can come up with is this.
I had the battery disconnected for two days as I was working on my air box. After connecting everything up I then run the bike to make sure all is well and all things are connected etc.
I’m thinking that the battery was low in charge and that is why at idle it was not reading correctly. Now I know that shouldn’t be the case as I would be testing the voltage going into the battery but since doing the first test and the test just now I have had the battery on charge and now I have 14.05v at idle. That is the only difference between the first test and the second.
I’m still going to do all the other tests to make 100% sure things are good.
