    Gearing options

Looking at changing my sprocket on my speed 08. What have you guys done and what works ok. Really i just want more in 2nd gear. And dont want to go full crazy that i cant use first gear without changing my undies !!

Im not a fan of top end. Allthough i would like to know what you have done and how much it did slow your top end down. I was thinking maybe jsut one down on front and just leave the rear ? Thoughts and experiences welcome.

I haven't changed mine, but most seem to go up 2 or 3 on the rear. Going down on the front is not as popular.....tighter radius is harder on the chain, and it is thought that the chain will wear the slipper on the swing arm. If you are not a fan of top end it is unlikely you would notice the difference at the higher revs.

45 tooth rear is a common mod. Gearingcommander.com is fairly close with its predictions. I'm running 19/42 right now compared 18/42, standard. I'll be changing to 18/44 next, for more pep.

I just switched to a 17T on the front. I'm keeping an eye out for the extra wear since some sources swear it's a major issue, while others seem to have done the mod with no ill effects in the long term.
So far so good, it's much better in the city/heavy commuting. Much better pull down low and I don't seem to get stuck at that point where I'm in first gear and revving too hard but second is just toodling along, or in second revving too hard but third is just a little too high.
Probably mainly due to my riding style, I really like to feel that torque rather than be cruising along.
I have yet to see how I go on the freeway though.

    I'm on an 08.

    Re: Gearing options

My 06 im down one on front...when I did it I didnt think it made much diff except rev higher on the highway..so I switched back to the stocker..THATS when I noticed the difference.felt like I was always in the wrong gear..

Ive never experienced any premature wear with any of my bikes being -1 ..

But when I do do a new chain and sprockets im gonna stay stock on front and up in back..I like the bling factor of a bigger rear sprocket.

I only went -1 because you really can't tell a difference overall with up in back or down infront when your riding. .I wasn't sure how id like it and planned on going w a gold chain eventually so I figured a $18 sprockets a better gamble then a 60 $ one

Definitely 3 teeth up in the rear and a longer chain. I'm running the same sprocket as joe pointed out above. Really makes the bike fun. Hands down the best and most affordable mod I've done and I've done a lot of shit. Lol
