    Re: ATTN: New 1050 owners!

Here's something I just found out about (on that "other " site ). Not all Sp3s have the miles per gallon readout set to US gallons and miles. Some came here (to the U.S) set for kilometers and imperial gallons. To check/change it , do this:hold down all three buttons with the ignition on, but engine not running. Then you can select km, miles & UK gallons or miles & US gallons. The setting you want is #3, miles per hour and US gallons.

I assume this works. I haven't actually tried it yet, but I will tonight.

Fuel tank - If your fuel tank SUX air like a moderator when you open it, the air and fuel drain lines have been put on incorrectly. This can cause starting problems and can damage the tank. Remove the tank and make sure the line with the disc valve is on the outside (left side).
    Good posting Devi.

There are two other things that can cause tank vacuum.

    1. Failure of the tipover valve on the breather line. I had vacuum problems until I ripped the valve out and threw it away.
    2. A kink in the breather line....often occurs when the tank is removed then replaced. My first dealer left mine with a kink in it after my first service. When the vacuum built up, fuel delivery suffered as did performance.

    Re: ATTN: New 1050 owners!

Here's some infor about errors in the owners manual for the 2005 model. (I don't know if they were corrected in the 06/07 model)

    Errors in Manual

    1) Rear compression adjustment instructions + pic are from the right, when actually the correct screw is on the left and does not look anything like the one in the picture. The one on the right will not move.

    2) On the oil change instructions the manual incorrectly says that the oil filter should be tightened to 25Nm. Correct values are: oil plug 25Nm and oil filter 10Nm.

    3) There is no hint in the manual about the amount of oil the engine takes. Correct amounts: 3.5l dry, 3.2l wet including filter fill, 3.0l wet without filter.

This information was originally posted on that other forum. I cannot guarantee its accuracy but I do believe it to be correct.

    Re: ATTN: New 1050 owners!

My fuel tank sucks harder than Cheaps little sister when I try to open the cap with an empty tank. No performance issues though.

My chain lets me know when it needs lubed and adjusted.

I haven't had the false nuetral between 5th and 6th for about 700 mi (I'm around 1500 on the odometer), but I've been hitting a false nuetral every so often between 3rd and 4th, but it might be a soft toe.

Some other issues since I got Speedy - my grass needs cut, truck needs washed, wife says I'm not spending enough time with her and my ride home from work is now 10 times the distance as the ride there in the morning.

Anytime the fuel pump has to pull against a vacuum, you are having performance issues. If the pressure at the fuel rail doesn't remain constant, the maping is going to be off. And many pumps do not suck well - it can greatly reduce their life.

Most of what I know comes from breaking something FIRST.

Just changed my chain by myself, I'd probably never do any of my own work without the careful guiding hand of Devi and others on the board so thanks guys, from "slow" kids around the world!
