Hi all,

I have a 2013 1050 with 6000miles covered, but have always thought the suspension was a bit hard. I ride fairly sedately and weigh about 11st. Anybody got any ideas on settings that they can pass on?

Thanks

suggestion number 1: use the search function
suggestion number 2: find a local suspension guy (or dealership) and let them help you
suggestion number 3: zip tie weights to your bike to take care of the hard suspension

You are almost exactly my weight. tell me more about your bike. is it stock? or how much weight have you shaved by changing exhausts, removing passenger footpegs, etc.? how much do you weigh with your gear on? don't tell me in stone either. keep it either lbs or kg. the limey in me blood is diluted enough to have to google search pound to stone conversion.

I'm 200lb but got rid of the rear pegs and stock mufflers (incredibly heavy). I have a plain 2013 non 'R' 1050 Speedy and I found the factory stock setting just fine as far as preload and rebound settings were concerned. I did however back the compression damping off a little on both front and rear suspension from the factory settings and it made the bike a hole lot smoother and less harsh. It now tracks through corners without getting jiggled around and deflected offline. It was only a small amount too, something like 1/8 or 1/4 turn. You'll have to figure out what works for you. Really though, you need to check the static sag on the bike first to get optimum performance from your suspension. You'll never truly appreciate good suspension without getting it working in the right range of motion until you do.

Set the sag first and use zipties on your forks. Take a good ride and see where they end up after some good spirited riding. This will help you make adjustments, but make sure you document adjustments, take notes, and make SMALL adjustments!

Suspension adjustments is where I've gotten the most of out my money on bikes. Night and day difference, but then again, I'm 6'7" and 245lbs...so bikes are nearly always out of range for me.
