    Fork Preload Rings

    G'day Everyone,

Ive got an '09 that seems quite stiff on the front and I'm showing 4 rings on the preload caps already. I am unsure if the previous owner replaced the springs (they weren't linear springs when I serviced the forks).
My question is; does anyone know how many 'rings' can show if its fully adjusted out? Also, will it top out or unscrew completely? I am happy to go about adjusting but wanted to find out if I go winding away the cap isn't going to surprise me and come off.

    Cheers,
    Shobes

Not 100% sure how many rings there are but the adjusters will just top out not pop out.

There should be five rings showing for a standard set up.

I’ve recently brought an 08 and, like you found it quite stiff. I read the section in the owners manual and it says 3 rings should be showing and not to alter the spring pre-load. I contented myself with setting the comp and rebound damping at both ends to the recommenced soft settings and it made quite a difference, try it.

You can only do so much with the stock suspension, and depending on how hard you ride and the roads you ride its ok up to a point.
But the best money you can spend is on your suspension, better than all the horsepower in the world on some tight twisty blacktop!!!.
