    Re: Whats the difference?

They're just different sanctioning bodies for motorcycle racing. It's an age-old story - a group of racers (one or more of whom are RICH) get pissed off at the currently vogue sanctioning body, b/c they don't hold enough races in their region, or cancel a class, or change the rules to favor jap bikes over hardleys, so they form their own sanctioning body, make their own rules, and attract their own set of passionate racing members. Then one or more of them (one or more RICH) get pissed off and decide the new sanctioning body isn't doing what it said it was gonna do, or put the wrong guy in charge of tech, or runs Talladega GP the wrong way, so they form their own sanctioning body, make their own set of rules, and attract yet another group of passionate racer-types.

They're probably all good. They all have very similar rules. They probably hold races that your bike can be competitive in, at a few tracks you like. These are all more regional races, and the guys who do really well generally stick around to cherry-pick (snipe, sandbag, spoil - pick your verb) the purses and contingency moneys. The theory is that the really good guys move on to the Expert class, then on to AMA National-level racing. If you want to race to have fun racing rather than win or even podium all the time (b/c you won't - very few of us will) then any of these sanctioning bodies will be happy to take your money, issue you a license, and then take your money so you can race. Just be prepared to spend some more money on tires, tire warmers, go-fast parts, travel, and race gas.

Check out all their websites and forums. I'm sure one of them will be more appealing to you than the rest, or more applicable. Every one is going to say they're what you're looking for, but just like this site, one will become the one you like best. Until you don't. But don't worry - you can always find a rich guy who's also pissed off and form your own sanctioning body. Beware, though; in my experience, the guys who do this rarely get to race again, because they're taking care of all the admin that goes with running a new sanctioning body!

Sounds like America in a nutshell, Kart. Thanks for that concise explanation!
