    Front Wheel Bearing Removal - 2004 955i S3

I'm going to have my rims polished on my 04 speedy, and I need to remove the front wheel bearings before the rim is dipped for stripping of the existing paint.

I've done wheel bearings before, but I'm at a loss as to how to proceed with their removal. I want to reuse them if possible as there is nothing wrong with them. Bike has only done 20,000 miles.

I have a pdf copy of the workshop manual, but I haven't been able to find anything about front wheel bearing removal or replacement. Am I missing something? Can anybody tell me where to find the information in the manual or give me some tips about bearing removal?
    John

    I’m not sure mate.
Usually they are a press fit on the external race so you cause damage while pulling on the internal race to remove them.
You can buy cans of Freeze coolant (I don’t know wtf it is but it cools down the metal component) to shrink it but I doubt it works.
I have no doubt that there is a special tool to extend Alien style to remove it without damaging but it will cost 10 times more than new bearings.
You can usually buy bearings from SKF that far exceed the OEM specs for half the price.

Perhaps you could consult an engineer.

Yup, I have the same manual, but the 04 wheel is a little different and the cutouts in the centre sleeve referred to in this manual don't exist in the 05 centre sleeve.

Anyway....we got them out. Used a large punch and was able to "punch' a small cutout into the sleeve and then waas able to punch the bearing out.

Thanks to you and Avi for the responses.

How’s that polishing going and are you shaving down for the after photo?
