    Block off plates

I'm new to this site, and new ish to my speed triple, had it several months the (955i se)i've purchased some block off plates, so I can remove the air induction system, but I recently spoke to a bike mechanic,he reckons it doesn't make any difference and there is no advantage to putting them on the bike and removing the air induction.
just wondering what members thoughts are on this, anyone got a block of's on the bikes, does it feels it's better in anyway? Thanks

Removing the Secondary Air Injection (SAI) and covering the holes with these plates only has two real benefits. 1) it removes a bunch of junk on the top of your engine, and 2) it will reduce backfiring and popping from the exhaust. Since your bike is a 955i it probably doesn't have the latter problem to being with. It was mostly a problem with the 1050 bikes. On a 955i bike I wouldn't bother, unless you're making a custom and want to clean up the top of the engine.

Note if you remove the SAI valve it will throw a Check Engine Light (CEL) if you don't modify the map in the ECU.

There was some discussion of routing the crankcase breather to the SAI apparatus to induce crankcase vacuum and add a small bit of power, but I don't know if anyone did any back-to-back comparisons to prove that it did anything worth mentioning. In theory it could work.

Thanks for the info, I think I might leave it as it is, unless a problem occurs.

Sometimes I miss the backfires on my 1050, but the plates make for a cleaner look. If you have tuneECU, you can disable the solenoid that it's throwing the CEL. While it may not affect HP, the SAI does make your exhaust run a bit hotter. And you already bought the plates....

To expand, if you already have the tank and airbox off for other purposes then go for it, but it's a bit of effort for just the block off plates install. I vote ride it until you have another reason to tear into the top, then do the plates.
