on the freeway, 6th gear, 75mph, what's your engine speed (approx.). also, what kind of fuel consumption are you guys getting? i keep feeling that the previous owner changed up the gearing cause i'm getting horrible gas mileage

I know I'm at 80mph @ 5k rpm. and 97mph @ 6k rpm. in 6th.

You could count the teeth on the sprockets. 18/42 stock

If I'm not hammering on it I regularly get about 32 MPG by the math. On a long freeway run maybe 37 MPG. If I'm racing or burning up corners, 29 isn't uncommon.

It's been a little better after the header mods and new tune. Barely.

Couldn't tell you what RPM it runs. Just never pay that much attention.

The bike can run with much leaner mixture at part throttle. Just look at the Tiger and Sprint RS maps. For some reson the S3 is originally tuned very rich at part throttle. My Bandit 1200 had more power but drinked much less.

thanks. that sounds about what i'm running at. why are the taller gears geared so short? i can see why some people would want a shorter 5th gear for passing on the freeway and such, but it just doens't make sense for 6th gear esp. if i cruize about 30miles or freeway/day.

the previous owner has a PCIII hooked up to the bike, so i'm not sure what kind of tune he's running. if i just unhook the PCIII, could there be any potential damage?

LOL. smart guy eh? :drink: well think of it this way then. 75mph was jus a theoretical number thrown out there. many horror stories of popos hanging around boards like this waiting for bring down a bragging law offender--even better if they post picture/videos.

I know I'm at 4000 RPMs at 65MPH in 6th if that helps. (Nice way for me to tell what gear I'm in at 4000 RPM 6th=65, 5th=60, 4th=55) My milage has been a little under 35MPG.

Average mpg 37. Commuting interstate only, 47. Highest mileage from a tank, 51. And that's after resetting the measurements from the "imperial gallons" thing.
