There's a lot of if's in my life right now, but IF Speedy doesn't sell (2 weeks 0 calls) I may do the exhaust if I can find some money. If and when I do an exhaust on Speedy, i'll likley ceramic coat the header And I think I'll wrap it all the way to the collector.
Lime-Away works really good to clean the header, if your in england I don't think you can get it, but any lime, rust remover should work. Get some steel wool and rub the cleaner on the pipes with a rag then work it with the steel wool. Works very good.
:afro: Cleaning the headers!!!!!!!!!!! :sign5:
Someone posted on TRAT about using toilet bowl cleaner on the header to clean it. I tried it and it works very well. Use the cleaner with acid in it. Make sure you use chemical gloves and do not let the cleaner touch anything else. Just put it on, I did with a brush, and rinse it off. Works really well and you don't have to scrub it.

Thanks i will give it a go.
PEOPLE....Stop "cleaning" your headers.THIS IS AN ACID. It is actually etching the head little by little. Not the best idea. If you actually care about how clean they look.... :sign5: I would ceramic coat or paint them. IMO

Yep, technically it does take a little bit off with it but so does steel wool. I personally don't see any harm in doing it to the stock headers...they are thick enough to endure this more than I care to do it. It does take it off uniformly so you are not actually etching the headers, more like a surface removal.

I’m not going to worry about it until I put on a full system that is nice.
ACID IS AN ETCH. Those products contain ACID. Who cares what the pipes look like, JUST RIDE THE DAMN THING!!!!!! :sign5:

My point is that it doesn't hurt the pipes. Some people take pride in how thier bike looks. Different strokes for different folks and all that hippy shit. JUST CLEAN THE DAMN THING!!!! :jerkit:
This might help:

Wrapped stock header (over ceramic coating), with wrapping extending below oil cooler.
1 inch wide wrapping done from bottom to top - then painted.
Note: The cheaper fiberglass tape wrap found at some auto stores work just as well as this expensive copper impregnated 'glass wrap - and it's easier to paint.

Devious2xs, that looks really good. post a pic of it on the bike!
Slack-cat,
The first photo (in the second post), is the same header coated, wrapped, and painted - on the bike.
Sorry boys
Excuse my ignorance why wrap the headers. A good polish with autosol will make them look pretty. No acid just good old fashioned grinding paste. Light weight of course.
Is it all about heat disapation/insulation?

Yeah, I'm curious too. Especially since you guys seem to be ceramic coating them anyway. Doesn't that insulate the heat very effectively anyway?
Doing both is definitely overkill. :violent1:

I coated and wrapped mine because I had the wrap and coating. it didn't cost me anything but time.
Sure it's over kill, but it looks bad ass! it says "I'm not here to look pretty like some dumb chopper, I'm here to kick ass and tag your girlfriend.

I plan to do mine, or have it done.... :smiley-asskiss:
