My truck has been in the shop for the last 3 weeks to have rusty rocker panel's fixed at a cost to me of $2,000 flat. During this time I have been riding speedy to work at my new white collar job (rain or shine) forcing me to wear oversuits and such. I was ecstatic when I picked my cage up on Friday night because I LOVE my t ruck. Saturday it sat home the entire day as family activities are attended in my wife's company car (in which gas is provided). Sunday morning I awoke late and was not able to make it to church with the wife and kiddies on time. So I took the truck a short time later. After church I grabbed my 1 1/2 year old daughter, threw her in her car seat in the center of the rear bench seat, and shot out of the parking lot down a country road toward home. The reason this is a Speedy thread is because I was in a hurry to get home because I was supposed to meet a couple of buddies half an hour later to go riding for the day. About 5 minutes after leaving the church parking lot, and at a speed of about 65 mph I was greeted personally by a couple of deer. One of which decided to get up close and personal by jumping through my windshield and obliterating my passenger seat. He never touched the front of the truck... he just came directly throught the windshield (as a lady coming from the other direction told me. She'd seen the whole thing and had dialed 911 calling for an ambulance because she'd assumed that somebody must have been killed). His broke-back ass then shot right back out my windshield before I'd even come to a full stop. His buddy slammed into my driver's side front quarter panel and somehow managed to majorly dent every panel on that side of the truck. The good news is that, except for the mild case of shock, my daughter came out of the ordeal unscathed. I've got a number of small glass cuts and a slightly bruised shoulder but am more disturbed at having paid all of that money for body work on my truck. My wife and other 2 daughters happened upon the scene and completely freaked out when she saw all of the blood everywhere. What a day. But I did still get my ride in. And my wife was so happy that the baby and I were okay that she didn't give me any shit about the Hooters charge that showed up on my debit log tonight.

shit man, glad you and yer daughter are ok. I hope ya had good insurance on yer truck. It's pics like that, that make me wanna carry full coverage, but then again, if sumt'n ever happened, I only paid $800 fer my truck, so I'd pay more in insurance than the damn thang is worth. :violent1: Like I said, glad everyone was ok, and atleast you weren't on speedy!

Glad that turned out ok, could have been bad news. Been dodging them every day in Birch run. One ran across in front of me last week and when i rolled past there were 3 more in the ditch waiting. Glad you and the baby are ok.

That was a close one! Glad you got out of a serious wreck with just cuts and bruises. It sucks that you just got your truck back, but I think it went a lot better than it could have.

Another reason why its good to put the kids in the back seat.

Thanks everyone. I just needed to get that off my chest last night and the ol' lady didn't really want to revisit it with me.

In answer to the question about the deer... both were in pretty bad shape. The one that came through the windshield had a pretty busted up hind quarter which probably saved my little girl from catching hooves to her face. The other deer eventually got up and wandered off but probably was broken up too. A farmer from down the street assured me that once the state trooper was gone he'd take care of the deer.

I'm hoping that they total the truck though I'm thinking that will be a long shot. The whole inside is filled with glass, deer hair, blood and shit. I've had that truck paid off for a few years and was hoping to get another 6-8 more out of it. Now I'm ready to collect a check (have full coverage w/$50 deductable through AAA) and begin the new truck research!

Riding home from work today I couldn't help but think what would happen if a deer jumped up in front of speedy like that. I'd always assumed that if I'd hit a deer I'd just go over the bars and slide. If one of them things jumps like it did through my windshield it'd be like hitting a wall I'd think.

Best not to think of these things. As you saw, it happens so fast that there's nothing that you can do about it. I've hit many deer with trains, and even though I don't like the sound it makes, I figure at least I'm keeping that one off the road.
