My front forks are clanking, must be from all the wheelies. I think my steering head bearings might be done?

Anyway, i am going to remove the forks, and this is probably the must intensive thing I have done on the sp3. What should I do to while i have the forks out?

I want to change the oil, what type of oil should I be using?

Any other thing i should replace and do?

Id love to get a 2005-06 sp3's front and install it on mine, anyone want to trade? I also heard gsxr1000's fronts fit? Not sure I want to go through the trouble and lose the handlebars ahah

Your problem is more likely the steering head bearings than the forks. It may just need adjusting or it may need replacing. The lower bearing is a proper tapered roller bearing but the top one is just a cheesy ball bearing. The top is far and away the first to fail. You should search on this and the RAT site for how to on changing the top steering head bearing to a tapered roller. It sounds easy, but I have not done it myself.

The owners manual does not specify the type or quantity of fork oil! All it says is replace it at 30,000 or 5 years miles. I'll try to remember to look in the service manual when I get home.
definatly need to change the top steering head bearings. What does the tapered roller thingy do?

Thanks.. I need to really do something about my suspension. Its really harsh lately.
