Veypor makes a really nice all-in-one unit that even does on-road dyno runs, braking runs, etc. I used it to completely replace my stock cluster.
Convenienttly on the 1050, if you're trraveling 33 mph and you're at 3k rpm that means you're in 3rd. 44 mph, 4k rpm = 4th etc. assuming you haven't changed you gearing.

Knew a guy for a while that had one of these installed on an 02 speedy. Worked fine.

One of those Acumen DG8 gear indicators literally just showed up at my door this afternoon. Paid $90 at motomummy.com I will get it installed in the next couple of days. I will give ya a full report asap. I am very impressed with the quality and look of the unit. We'll see how it works...
NEATO. After riding my roommates 675 w/ one. I kind of want one as well.

How does this thing work? Where does it plug to?
OK so it plugs into the instrument panel wiring.

But hey. I kinda need a lap timer transponder too. Is there maybe a gear indicator that has one built in?

If you want all of that, then you probably have to go with a Veypor system.

Everything you could want and more. It's just ugly IMHO. I hate digital speedos and particularly Tachs. But there's nothing to say you can't have it as an addition to the stock stuff.
I had a DG8 installed with my old analog clocks - ran the DG8 off their accessory sender with 6 magnets per revolution.
It is quite slow to respond in the lower gears but 4th - 6th will update progressivley much quicker.

With an 02-04 speedie, I think it would be slower still given the really low pulse count per wheel revolution with the design of the speedo sender Triumph uses
.
I think with 05+ being transmission driven however, there should be much higher pulse count per wheel rev.
I think with the clock on that model it would be better to splice the speedo drive signal for the DG8 into the sender output (input to ECM) rather than the output from ECM into the speedo.

I'm actually working on a plan to improve the update rate on the 02-04 bikes - essentially involves a frequency multiplier to give more pulse per wheel rev. I traded notes with tech support at Acumen (nice guy!) & he affirmed my theory would likely work.
Stay tuned for more news on that as it happens!!
