header removal and oil filter

3430 Views 38 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Devious2xs
I got everyting taken apart on my (2007+) exhaust, then I find that it does not seem possible to get the header off without removing the oil (>>filter<< ) CHANGED TO >>COOLER<<. Can someone confirm you must do this? (or if you think it can be pulled without an oil change, let me know how I can do it?? ) :)

Thanks!!!!

 ;D :D don't forgit to change the coolant filter too! :twofinger:

Holy shit, don't forget the gas filter, the black ones are real expensive. ;D
aiiiight, I mant the cooler. My bad, "Idiot" and all that (but we knew that after seein the bull video eh?). :'( :'( :'(

So does anyone know if the cooler needs removed? : It's gettn pretty dark.. ??? ??? ??? ???

I did mine (05, larger cooler) without taking it off. be real careful tho. You have to undo the bolts that hold it to the rad.

Which direction did you take it out? through the bottom? Seems like the oil hoses (connected to that big filter, lol) get stretched REAL tight way before I have the header through...
Oh, and I got the smaller oil cooler too... :(

It came out the bottom, did you undo the bolts that hold it to the radiator (coolant filter ;D)

LOL. Yeah, both the water and oil "thingy" are completely unbolted except to their hoses. However the oil cooler seems to be WAY too narrow to allow the header to pull out from between it and the oil hoses...
G
Ya gotta turn the header on its side as it come out.
Here's some photos to help show my predicament (other than having the most $$ S3 o-filter) :
other side
top down... I dont see a way to turn the header to alllow the two bolt "flanges" or whatever they are called to get past the oil lines..
G
I just pushed the header up a bit and rotated it 90

did you have to pull the cooler out completely flat? that seems to really kink the left oil hose... can I break that hose by kinking it?

and by 90 do you mean swing the underpipe out towards me but flat (so the heade pipes are sticking out straight towards the front whell?)
or swing it up the side of the bike so that the headers are lined up ground to ceiling?
G
Now yer just fucking with me ;D be real carful with that cooler, they damage real easy. Turn it so the header is on its side, so its passing between the lines.

actually not fing. so I get which axis now, but which side? same side as the pipe is routed on? If you were sittn on the bie would the left or right side of the header come out of the cooler lines first? (I'm going down one last time... hope I dont need a real expensive oil filter...) I hae tried it but it does not seem wide enough to allow the header to turn at all....
