Spray on leather cleaner/care (some sort of a high tech saddle soap) for cleaning + thick leather wax ~2 times per year.

Very cheap at a riding (as in horses) supply store. You can get huge buckets of the stuff for 1/20 of the price miniscule containers of identical stuff cost at a motorcycle store.

Leathery horse sports gear has been around a bit longer than motorcycling ones and those folks know a thing or two about leather care.
