I was curious as to how everybody bike idled. Mine is back in the shop again! Because of irradic idling and eventually cutting out at lights.
So I was curious especially on older triples (97-01).
My needles goes up and down between 1200 and 1000 like a pscho.

If your plugs are in good shape, look at the idle air servo. It may need to be cleaned for smoother operation.

Also, open the throttles and look at the back side of the intake valves - with the airbox removed. See if you have a bunch of carbon on the back of the valves.

My bet is they replaced the motor and did not check the TPS voltage.
You bike thinks it is at a different throttle position than it actually is, and the air is not correct for the fuel. As a result, the motor is over correcting in both directions - open and closed.
