Christ, the beginning of the end!!! It'll be as bad as Blighty with all the Gatsos!!
Playing devils advocate a bit here maybe.....but I think if I worked in those construction zones, I'd be fairly happy with the new fines. I have seen some folks do really dumb things and nearly cause some serious pileups in work zones. Is the fine harsh? maybe, but those guys have near zero protection around them.

I dunno, the older I get the more confused I get. I guess I can see why they want to nail people here if it saves lives. Now if they would just realize that law abiding, gun-toting citizens would be beneficial we could maybe prevent some other loss of life.

i live in IL and have no prob with that. no need to speed in a constrution zone. and in IL the fines only apply if workers are present

Milq, I'm not necessarily against harsh fines, but the cameras leave no room for officer judgment, you happen to be 1 MPH over and get a ticket? OUCH! As an occasional road side worker I have no problem with inattentive speeders getting tickets, but a SHP officer should be the one to do it, not a camera.
While it is a good idea to slow down to the posted speed in a construction zone a speed camera is for revenue, not for safety. It is meant to catch people rather than slow them down.

I fully agree. We start using cameras in law enforcement and we'll wind up like England. No offense intended, Limey, but to hell with having a bunch of assholes watching me on camera.

Sorry Man,
In Illinios the fines are in force 24 hrs a day once posted. I agree that we should not speed in construction zones but I have a feeling that there is more to it than that.
