I'll admit, it's tempting, but KC dead right - it's mostly about bragging rights. And the problem with buying the latest and greatest is that tomorrow it'll be yesterday's bike.
Devi's got a point too - if you like it better, buy it.
I'll admit, I'm tempted. I would love to have a ZX14. And the new GSXR looks like a blast.
If I had unlimited funds, I'd have a different bike for every mood. But I don't, so everything's a compromise. The S3 doesn't do any one thing as well as, say, an R1. But it's a great package.
Also, my recent experience with the TT is instructive. It's a six-year-old 600, but it still handles great, and I've seen 135 on the speedo. Wound up in its powerband, it has plenty of go. Sure, it's not going to keep up with a ZX6 on the track. So the ZX6 gets bragging rights. But on public roads? By the time you're in the powerband in second gear, you're going well beyond the speed limit just about anywhere.
Bottom line? Even an "obsolete" 600 is more bike than anyone needs for most of the riding they're ever going to do. The GSXR? Unless you're going to take it to the track, you're spending a lot of money on stuff you'll never use.
But, it'll look cool.
