There's going to be BIG shit with Michelin this week because of the tyres used in that race, I think Rossi was the first in with Michelin tyres and 1-9 are all Bridgestone :horse:

Whatever the secret compound is that B Stone used worked on those track conditions you could see Rossi was not riding the way he would normally. For him to have a que of guys waiting to overtake him is not normal.

But then credit to Stoner he rode like a demon he was upfront on his own and still cracking record lap times, I think even Rossi would have been hard pressed to beat him. Great race!

Hayden in 6th was the top Michelin rider. Has anyone heard if it was only tyre issues that slowed Rossi down so much?

Yo Bich[]
When was the last time YOU ran wide at 270 kmph off the track across the grass, stayed up and continued on racing?

Rossi looked ok until he and Elias collided twice. Post race interview only mentioned the tyres though.

I think Rossi had power issues with the Yamaha. He was blaming the tires, which were definitely an issue, but for him to drop so dramatically, halfway through the race, tires CAN'T be the only thing. The way he dropped suddenly after the pass, it was almost like he lost a cylinder or something. Maybe the bumping on that pass midway through the race knocked a coil wire loose. He is by far the best pilot out there, as evidenced by the way he can spank an otherwise uncompetitive bike.

If Rossi had been on Stoner's bike, he would have won by a minute!

What's the deal with tires anyway? Are they trying to take all the excitement out of MotoGP and F1?

I like the old days, when sometimes five or six brands were out there. Everybody gets better when there's competition. I hate to see a race decided in some corporate manager's office.

He used to be by far the best pilot out there. Let's face it he used his tire up too early. Looks to me like Stoner, Elias, Pedrosa could hang with him all day. In Superbike there is only two great riders at the moment: Mladen and Spies. They pull away from the field every time. You can't say that with moto gp. IMO they are all great riders. Nicky won last year because he learned how to be conservative, Rossi blew up how many bikes?

Racing is all about when to be conservative, and when not to be (tires, engines, etc.). A good strategy wins the most races - with a great rider and loads of cash. ;)
Speaking of Superbike, and not to hijack the thread, but did anybody else have an involuntary fetal-position reaction to that 600 Supersport crash with Hacking and May?!? That was the ugliest thing I've seen in a loooong time - thank God they're both relatively OK!

Yeha,

first thing out of my mouth was, "this is going to be ugly."

Luckily it wasn't

Hell, I think Collin Edwards would have been in contention for the podium as well during the race, if he didn't get taken out in the crash.

Oh and rubbing is racing bich

I liked it all. I am a big Rossi fan but I love racing more and thats what we got from 2nd to 6th. Tires are the most important part of the bikes set up. You can put 10,000$ suspension on a bike and go a little faster. You put on great tires and you go from zero to hero. Course I could be wrong.
Ho Bichomalo San,

I agree. Casey won and I love banging fairings [amongst other things].

I think Rossi has probably bashed into more fairings and stayed up than anyone else out there.
This time I think he might have broken something in the process.

I have watched all but about a dozen 500/moto GP in the last 30 years and Rossi is the best I have seen.

Every one of the guys out there could whip my ass on a postie bike.

Tires are #1, It looked like a qualifier that he was running the way it chunked up and wore out. Did anyone see the camera shot looking out the back? the right side of the tire was toast.
Rossi's my favorite, I cheer Nicky cuz, he's american, but he's been disappointing lately. Pedrosa and Stoner have some mad skillz, but I think they need to learn some self discipline, I think Stoner will pick up a lot from Capirossi. Pedrosa seems to be on his own.
I taped the whole Sunday's worth (on accounta I was out riding with the Redhead and Virago Girl) of speed coverage and watched it over the last two evenings. The supersport crash was spectacular - somebody needs to get that on Youtube. Dude must have been 12 feet in the air. The fact that they both walked away still amazes me.

Superbike's gonna be real boring if it's just the Mladin and Spies Show.

The Moto GP race was also kinda boring from a "who's gonna win" standpoint. The bumping was like NASCAR, but scarier. The highlight of the race, though, was that amazing slice-and-dice for third on the last lap. Spectacular riding. I also liked the view from the cam mounted to the front of Stoner's bike. The guy's smooth - looks like he's not even working.

Anybody making early odds that Hayden will NOT be with the Repsol Honda team next year?
G
I bet Repsol goes with a different rider next year........$10 bucks???
I don't think Repsol will can him so soon. Maybe the season after if he keeps this shit up. It may be hard to tell who's leaving who though, the way Rossi talks about Honda and the way Honda trated Nicky last season, (not giving Dani any team orders, giving him a prototype bike to "test" throughout the season, fucking up his clutch along the way) I wouldn't be surprised if Nickey tried going womewhere else. I just don't know who'd pick him up. Maybe KR's team :gayaway:
I wouldn't be surprised to see Nicky as VR's teammate next year. If Colin Edwards goes downhill, he'll be gone. I'm sure Nicky would fit in there well. Rossi gets along w/ him well, and he's proved that he's good at testing bikes. Not sure that he'd settle for second fiddle, but I get the feeling that HRC is treating him that way anyways.

Am I the ONLY person that was happy when Pedrosa crashed?
I don't like to see anybody crash if it's a result of being taken out by someone else. Pedrosa, Colin and Vermuelen were innocent bystanders. Vermuelen could have been as big a factor as Hopkins given he set fastest race lap late in the race. Apart from Stoner, man of the race must surely have been Elias, he came from nowhere and threw the bike around like a dirt tracker. A lot of impressive rides though, it's hard to single one out.
I love this stuff!
Cheers
Barry
