Well, since I have to wait for the real performance mods I went ahead and did a tail tidy today. Here are the photos:

I tried to simulate what the LED lights will do for the Lic plate (I know I have mounted it too low, on the wrong bolts, but I was ready to be done in the 40MPH winds that were blowin everything around..)
I got a rear hugger at the same time but it was scratched up quite a bit. Waiting to see if I can either get a discount on it or get one without scratches :)

I am debating (after seeing the hugger mounted) whether to add back the short rear upper fender.....
I recommend using the "duck bill". It keeps shit out of the taillight area, and helps keep shit off of you. It doesn't do much, but it helps. I think the tail looks fine with it.

Even with a hugger in place? I had hoped the hugger would block everything the duck bill could manage anyway. ???

The hugger is only going to stop stuff going into the rear shock. It doesn't extend far enough back to block anything going up your back or onto the tail light. Having said that I'd be skeptical about the duck bill thing doing much either.

In my opinion it looks much better the way you've done it so I'd just wash the bike if it gets a bit dirty after riding in the rain.
I got caught in the rain on mine, With the duck bill thing on. I did get some spray up on the passenger seat, and on top of the duck bill. I actually like the look better with it, as it hides wiring and my signals (my signals are mounted to plates I made up that mount to the old exhaust hanger donut things. If you do a different kind of signal setup and run wires differently, it would look better with the duck bill off. The difference it makes is minimal in the rain, so it is more of an aesthetics thing really.

Yeah, that's fair enough. Is the bottom of the tail light open with it off? Maybe you could make up a blanking plate to cover the light? Of course if you like the look of the stock plastic then that's even easier.

I dont think there is any open space under my tailight. I see no exposed areas with this configuration. ecept a small hole.... ??
Yes it is open with it off, but it's also open with it on. :) There is a hole in the duck bill too.
Looks good. Now loose those passenger pegs and clean up the sub frame.

It's funny I could never understand why you guys had a problem with the stock pillion pegs. I thought they looked great. Then I saw that shot from behind without the exhaust and all of a sudden I agree. They really stick out once the exhaust is gone.

removing the pass pegs will clean up the look of the sub frame. :violent1:

;D
If you want to keep the passenger pegs, I think these are the best looking pegs/brackets for a low-mount pipe, but they aren't inexpensive.

Look under GSG moto muffler bracket:http://www.whaccessories.com/TriumphAccessories.htm

Ahh, I thought you meant remove pass pegs AND clean up sub frame.

I am getting a trdent dual system so I prob cant move to the slimmer pegs (They can "go away" at times, but I want to taxi some hotties once in a while so they have to stick around partr of the time)
I've got a similar project in the works. I'm losing the boat tail - it just doesn't work for me - and I'll probably hang the tag under the now-integrated taillight/turnsignal unit, mainly on accounta I don't want to get pulled by some cop in a bad mood who can't see the plate because it's tucked way back up by the shock or whatever. To maximize exposure of the tire and whatever else, I'm ditching the stock license plate light and going with bolt lights. Those just came in the mail today. It'll be Saturday before I can start "fabricating," but I'll post some pics too an' y'all can compare boatl/no boat
