Hi,

has anybody heard that the new Speedy 1050 shall have a metal tank instead of the plastic one?

Has this been discussed here already? I couldn`t find anything.... ???

Is there anything else new on the "new 1050" which we should know about ?

The new S3's also come with a small turbo underneath the gas tank, allegedly boosting rwhp up to 175

:violent1: That's right I forgot, I'm such a dumb ass...
The metal tank looks to be a new running production change.

I have been trying to track down which bikes have the metal tanks, and have been told ones with VINs above 305060.
Eight days until I get my S3 (06 -- plastic tank I'm sure.) But here is my related question--is the plastic tank painted? I'd think with a plastic tank, instead of painting, they'd just mould it in the right color, so scratches would change the texture, but not color. This would also make plastic preferable in my mind. This is how my Buell is. Not the case with the s3?

It has a metal flake paint and lacquer on it. If it was just plastic it wouldn't have even nearly as nice surface on it :)
And to tell you the truth....
The plastic tank surface is very sensitive to when it comes to contact with your pants..... ;D ;D

Maybe the surface of a metal tank will be a little more resistant against the millions of tiny scratches.....

???
my tank is scratched to shit, i really wish i had the dough to get the matte black bike everybody is talkin about,, might even just sand the shit out of all my plastic and paint it myself, but i think i'm selling, so we'll see.
But the real question is, does the matt black speedy come with a metal tank???????

I guess the paint colour, matte or not, black or ugly, does not mean anything. You'll get the metal version if you get a bike above said VIN. Triumph has to unload the stock of tupperware first.

I am sure at least the guys in US will be getting plastic bikes for a long time to come as '07 production has been running since last July/August and stock has been slowly moved Stateside. Triumph US has to sell this stock first.

This has nothing to do with the tank, and everything to do with the paint. My bike has been repainted, and has no problems with scratching on the plastic tank.
Plus the metal tanks will dent from a slightest knock so plastic for me thank you. (Magnetic or any) tank bag will chew the paint in no time.
I just got an `07 and the tank is plastic.
I got my Speedy 07 two weeks ago and the tank is plastic.
As Devi said, the tank is a running change.

I've noticed a couple of running changes on the '07

1) some have come with the '06-style exhaust, with the vertical O2 sensor. I haven't seen any '07s with the old-style exhaust produced after September.

2) Some early '07s also have the '06 ECU. According to Triumph, they tweaked the tune to closely match the new ECU, but its still not the new unit.

3) the latest '07s I've seen have STAINLESS head shields, rather than the anodized aluminum.

4) I've only seen one metal-tank bike - roulette green.

5) I've seen two different-size oil coolers, but haven't seen a pattern yet.

My thinking is they probably have a big supply of black and white plastic tanks, so the metal tanks will first be seen on green bikes.

Another observation about the ECU...
I know there was some bitching about people who bought '07s with the idea that they got the new ECU (with quicker starting, better gas mileage, and 2 more horsepower) and found they got the '06 ECU. We're talking about improvements the average person would never notice.
When Carroll Shelby came out with the 427 Cobra in 1965, he had a hard time getting 427 motors from Ford. He would ask for 50, and get maybe 22, because the various FoMoCo racing programs were higher priorty. Out of the 330 or so 427 Cobras built, only about 150 actually had 427's - the rest came with 428's - an identical-looking engine, same FE block, but about 60 hp less.
Most Cobra owners never noticed the difference.

My local dealer told me that all the black 07 S3s will have the plastic tank while the white and green will get the new metal tank. I don't know how much of this is true though.
I've been to my dealer with a small magnet and guess what no metal......

Hell I want a plastic tank for the simple reason that gasoline up here is COLD.
