Let me know when you're coming down and maybe I'll meet you up there.  That's my old stomping grounds.  I lived in Castle Rock as a kid, and I've hunted and rambled over that whole area my whole life.

Oh no, I'm sure you could get around up there pretty good in late April or early May. In fact the summer hours at Johnston Ridge start in May.

If you ride the Columbia River Gorge, take the old highway and stop at the different falls. Amazing.

I also like riding some of the old highways between Portland and the coast.

Oh absolutely. One of my favorite rides is between Longview and Long Beach Washington. Of course if you do the Gorge you either have to do the old highway, or do the Washington side. Then up through Carson, and over Oldman pass, Eagle Cliff, and down through Cougar. A nice day, that.
