Anybody know if the sprint crowd can/has tried this? I tried posting on T-rat and got jack for replies.

I have a buddy close to me who just got an 06 ST and he's been following my mods pretty close. Would like to pull his headers and play a bit. :wrench:

Dfib, I read your post and it led me to this board. This is an excellent site!
There may be one individual that has done this with a Sprint, however there has been no mention of what the results were. The same person also took apart a stock muffler to see what was inside and maybe make some improvements/corrections, but again, no follow up posts on that.
For whatever reason, the Sprint crowd hasn't shown the amount of interest in tuning that the S3 folks have. Could be that there is almost zero aftermarket performance support for the ST.
Being the same motor, all the S3 tricks should work?
Devious, you mentioned a difference in tuning. Any idea how different they are?

After comparing a couple of maps for the 1050 Sprint and the S3, the Sprint maps have less fuel throughout the entire range and a bit less timing as well (strange - it should want more). The Sprint TORS tune actually has less fuel than the S3 base map in most places.

If the Sprint undertail exhaust is more restrictive than the duals on the S3, it likely is the reason for the tuning and output differences. An aftermarket exhaust might make a good difference here with good tuning.

The aftermarket for the Sprint has likely seen little development due to the lack of interest from the Sprint owners. The 1050 S3 aftermarket grew slowly, and then exploded as different manufacturers were contacted by S3 owners begging for parts.

Different strokes...

Kind of makes me want to get a hold of the Sprint, hang 3 old squid cans off the back, and work the header over but good, give her a little tune-boy lovin too. :wrench: Can you imagine the Sprint owners faces when all of a sudden they had a lot more sport in sport touring! ;D

I haven't seen the inside of a TOR, but I suspect it's similiar.
There are currently three options for Sprint cans: TOR, Wolf/Trident and Ixil. The Wolf/Trident and Ixil are nearly identical. Both use three seperate cans that connect to the mid-pipe by way of a crude 3-1 collector. Staintune and Two Bros. have given up on making a can. At the bike show, I spoke with a rep from Laser who said they were devloping a can, but were having problems getting it right. Seems that they could get the mid range, or get the top end but not both. This mirrors my experience with the TOR. It has a better top end hit, but the low and mid range suffer. I wondering if there is something else to consider? Maybe they were limited by using Triumph tunes?
I follow your thoughts about the Sprint maps - they do need more!
It will be interesting to see how well the Tuneboy works with the Sprint.

Dfib, I forgot to mention that the Sprint pipe is different than the S3. It has a curve at the end that won't allow the pre-cat to come out! You have to cut the pipe - the joint just downstream of the O2 sensor is a good spot.

Venture4th- You don't happen to be anywhere near the upper mid west do you? I wanna work on your sprint! :wrench:
Sorry Dfib, but I can see the Pacific Ocean from where I'm sitting!

There has to be something going on with the Sprint that doesn't let it run like a S3. Prolly something lame and easy to correct.(I hope!)
I'm trying to picture what that low mount Zard would look like on the Sprint...
An underseat unit built on the lines and design of the MV F4 would be nice too!
I know that this is a S3 forum, but I'd appreciate hearing of any progress you make on your friends Sprint.
Thanks!

Hell I'd take anybody's Sprint right now.... I posted the offer up at Trat, have gotten one reply, and that guy is pretty sure the headers don't need porting. http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Forum&file=viewtopic&topic=77704&forum=20

I have to believe the possibility is there to really uncork the ST motor.... :wrench: :wrench: :wrench: :smitty:

Side note: Damn you DVS this really is all your fault........ ;D

A single outlet can slung under the tail would be easy - but it would look like any number of Japanese 600s. This bike has enough styling to warrant something that looks better IMHO. A low mount Zard would look excellent, and a tail light could be made to fill the empty undertail area along with a tray to cover the wheel well under the seat.
Another tuning consideration lies in the airbox. It's different than the S3. The Sprint has an intake snorkle that runs through the airbox and ends right under the filter, maybe 1/2" away from it. And a resonator. Take a look at the schematic on Bike Bandit to get an idea. Could have some part in the fueling/timing difeereces, but what I'm not sure
If the S3 header needs porting, I'm sure the Sprint does too!
Dfib, are you a performance or fabrication shop?

My wife has an 05 ST, but she's content with her bike so far... I think she'd love it a lot more though if the throttle response was even better and she had more grunt from 3k. She just doesn't know what she's missing yet.
