RACK AND CORTECH BAGS (update)

1827 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  BUCKET
This is a rack i made up to keep the Cortech saddlebags of the wheel and indicators. Was looking to get the weight forward and down. Not sure how many litres the bags are but they are Cortech Sports saddlebags and tailbag.Got this set from DSR Power Sports in Omaha, great people i found to deal with and i even haggled the price down a bit.Cortech themselves don't ship outside of the U.S.A so had a look on ebay and found DSR,ride and tour on!

Ps: The rack was made to use the stock muffler mounts and the two holes that the Kurzes Heck undertail bolts to which is straight to the subframe, very fn strong. :afro:
Have since changed the rack a bit,as the saddlebags were still hanging in towards the rear tyre.Yes it can be removed easily and is only on when travelling.Comments good or bad but if they are bad,you know what's gonna happen. :slap:

Re: RACK AND CORTECH BAGS

looks good....would like to see it with the stock exhausts....great job
Re: RACK AND CORTECH BAGS

You rack kicks ass! I always wanted to rig something up like that. I just wear a large backpack and pack light when going anywhere. A rig like that would definitely make my back feel better on long trips.
Re: RACK AND CORTECH BAGS

you think that could be modified for fitting around dual high pipes? do you have a set of drawings????

Nice Bucket! :drink:
Re: RACK AND CORTECH BAGS

Apparently the boat from China with Cortech stuff made it here. The Sport Tail Bags are available again if anyone's interested. I bought one from Chaparral Motorsports for $53.00.

Good stuff peeps. :drink:
The rack is cool Bucket. Why did you decide not to carry the bottom piece all the way up and terminate into the original top bar? Just curious.

Also, how are you welding this stuff up? I'd really like to learn some welding. Is there a "less expensive" way to get into doing that??

thanks,
Kjazz
Rent a welder and get somebody with some welding experience to show a few tricks. Welding is not hard at all, just keep the puddle deep and moving. That said, you can't teach ANYONE to weld, some will just never get it. It's an art, AND a science. Welding thinner materials is harder, and exotic materials are even harder yet.

Did it like that so i could keep it in as close as possible,to leave a gap for the indicators so the bar wasn't covering them.I look at it now and think it would have been better joined and moved out a bit.Am working on a new one, simplified abit.Getting the time is the big thing.I'm with Stuck on the welding, just decide what sort you want to do and start looking for the best welder for the job, don't be afraid to ask someone for help when you get started. :eboy: :drink:
