I used the clutch all the time, but lately it seams to be smoother without the clutch on gears 3,4,5,and 6. Book WARNS to always use the clutch.......how about you?? :-\

I always use the clutch. I've tried a few times wt/out the clutch and it seems pretty smooth. I'm just worried to try it in the upper rpm's.

I use it all the time. Just barely disengaging it for up shifts, and blipping the throttle and disengaging the clutch for down shifts.
+1...i was taught this way to avoid chatter and it would be hard to break now...even though i get wood when ever i hear "full throttle clutchless upshifts" on the quick shifter commercials :jerkoff:

I use the clutch to wheelie, and I like to listen to clutch. I should use the clutch more when I upshift than I do, feels like I'm break shit. Everything seems to shift better after I change oil, so I change it after every 1000 miles.

I go clutchless for my cruising up and down shifts. Always been smooth as butter. Under power clutch it every time. I'm also a fan of slipping the clutch to control engine breaking and to keep the front end down leaving the corners, it's an old habit from riding dirtbikes.

Dragging this thread from the archives.....

How much if any damage can occur over time from clutchless shifting? I was talking to another rider yesterday and he said it is terrible for you bike. I don't know so I thought I would ask....

As long as you are hitting the "sweet spot" it won't result in any extra wear in my opinion. cruising around (like HockeyFan says) mine slips right into gear with no effort.

If you have to put any kind of effort into the shift then you aren't hitting that spot and it will wear on the synchronizers a bit more than usual. If you're really forcing it...well you get the idea.

Always use the clutch for both upshifting and downshifting. Every once in a while, when I get bored on the freeway, I'll mess around with clutchless shifting up/down but not for serious riding. It's harder to do correctly on this bike for me. It was a little easier on my CBR600.
