I may be wrong but I think tracker was doing the same thing ask him....

Cheers have PMd him.
Pull your seat, then you have 4 allen bolts staring at you, remove them. Then there's 4 plastic fasteners in the tail section (They're vertical.) Simply unscrew the center section, then push them out from the top. Hope that helps.

Thanks

Got your PM Spendthrift. AlaskaS3 got to you first. Those four vertical fasteners are a pain in the butt to get out. After unscrewing the screws, I used needle nosed pliers to squeeze
the plastic retainers together while pushing them out.
I pushed them out w/ a drift. I hate those things, I was worried I'd break one. Either way, a blunt object or needle nose pliers would work great. (Tracker was thinking harder than I was.)

Alaska, I hate them also. I keep putting them back in, but I wonder if they are really necessary? ( if I had a scorched Yellow bike I would not have put them back in because
the bikes don't go fast enough to blow off the side covers)
Well you'd still need them because when the black ones pass you you need to keep the panels from rippig off. Unless it's MY yellow one. His best friend is a KTM, and he's learned a few tricks.

The color thing crops up now in every topic, its getting a bit much, thanks for info,oh and Blue is best!!!
You could try all of the above or you could hit it with a hammer.
Bucket ;D
That is incredibly bad design! It is just about impossible to remove those center pieces without removing the mufflers first. Why do we need that many fasteners just for a side pannel. Most bikes have about 3 rubber grommets holding them on, no tools required.

I had to remove my fuel tank, I just took the allens screws out and left the side panels on. To much work and too many little pieces to loose.

I agree dr, down with the little side panel bolts!!
I broke one of the plastic "fir trees" that hold the side panel to the frame. Any one come up with a good replacement piece of standard hardware?

clicking is too complicated :slap: :nana:
I actually found bolts that threaded into where the "fur trees" go. My plastics actually have a brass threaded insert. I had to chase the threads out with a tap, but they're there.
