Quick question:

If someone were to lower their bike, say, with a Hagon shock, has anybody researched an off-the-shelf sidestand.

An acquaintance is interested in a 1050 S3, but would like to lower the bike to fit his smallish frame without having to cut and weld the stock sidestand.

Would an R6 sidestand work, for instance?

That's a good question. I've glanced at mine, i've got a small leak tha tseems to be coming from the sidestand ( a sensor or something near it) I was going to take off the sidestand, but it looked like i'd have to take off one of the cases or something. I've yet to find the source, but havn't really tried that hard. It looks like the S3 sidestand is pretty involved with the other parts arnound it, i wouldn't think another make would work with it.

Have you ever overfilled your oil? It could be leaking from the seal behind the front sprocket, I think that is the first thing to give when th bike is overfilled.

I'm not talking about replacing the whole assembly, just the arm (2 springs and an allen bolt). sidestands are pretty generic.

As to your oil leak, I think its probably coming from the sprocket seal. How often do you take the front sprocket cover off? I've already taken mine off three or four times to clean the gunk out (I lube my chain alot). If you haven't cleaned it out, it may just be old chain lube leaking out. That sensor by the sidestand is just the neutral safety switch (kills the engine when the sidestand is down and in gear)

Yeah, the leak looks like it's from somewhere around that sensor. I have cleaned out the front sprokcet cover, it could be leaking from the front sprocket. It's not lube though. Like I said it changes color with oil changes, even lets me know when i'm due ;D I'll poke around a little better this week and see what I find.
