My riding buddy picked up a new 2007 R1 today. When I was done drooling on it, he let me take it out for a bit. At first, I thought it would smoke the Speedy but boy was I surprised. I can honestly say that the Speedy smokes the R1 up to the Speedy's redline. After that, the R1 would really come alive and eat our lunch. But there is absolutely no comparison in the low to mid range. I was shocked. And I don't even want to talk about the seating position. My knees were in my ears and it felt like my wrists were lower than my ankles. Anyway, once again my Speedy impressed me and confirmed once again that I made a good choice w/ her :)

You guys haven't ridden an R1 until you've ridden an 03 or earlier R1. My 99 and 02 both pulled like a freight train down low too. ;D They've just totally ruined that engine from 04 on up. Now they've gone and done the same thang to the FZ1. :violent1: :horse:

On Memorial Day I rode my buddy's '04 r1. I've spent the last couple of years on sport bikes, but I was surprised at how foreign it felt after getting used to speedy. It did feel like my hands were practically grabbing my ankles. It's definitely better for cornering, but that's it. My friend wasn't in too big of a hurry to give up the s3 either, since we were riding in quite a bit of traffic and were unable to play.

The r1 also reminded me about the unusable power the liter bikes have now. I couldn't even come CLOSE to redline even in 1st gear, or I would have been picking myself out of someones trunk. As far as mid-range, I think that it's pretty relative, the r1 revs to @13k so it's mid range doesn't even start 'til around 7-8k. I'm pretty sure that if you lined an r1 and an s3 up at 50mph in 1st gear, or say 70 in 2nd, and rolled on, the r1 would clean the s3's clock. But again, how usable is this day to day.

My $.02, anyway.. :blah: :blah: :blah:

he's on his third clutch
   what's up with that? :slap: My 99 had 27k miles on the original clutch when I sold it, and she was just start'n to slip a little. And believe me, it was abused, that was the bike I learnt how to wheelie on. :smitty: :squid: :loser:
I don't know, he's rides it hard.

Here's some old pics he sent me, after I bought the bike from him of course.
