Hello All,
Went to start the bike and now hear nasty grinding sound. And then the bike just wouldn’t turn. Does this sound like the clutch is gone.
The battery is new and has always been on the tender. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a stator problem. Pretty common for the 06 and 07’s. Lots of info in here for diagnosis and replacement. I have an 06 with 20k on it and thankfully have had no stator issues. It seems sporadic.

I doubt if it’s the Stator. Though it’s been couple years since I replaced with Rick’s.
I am 80% sure it’s the clutch. The thing is that after cranking it couple times then the engine won’t turn at all now and all I hear is the click of the start button.
Maybe I shall go downstairs right now and start opening it up. It may take couple more weeks to get the plates delivered. Thanks guys. Keep you posted.

Sounds like starter sprag clutch.
Yes! I think you are right. Shall start first by opening up the Starter Drive Cover and see if the gears are intact. I hope nothing major is broken in there. Each of those gears are like $100 some dollars and the Sprag Clutch is like $250.

Did you resolve the problem? What was solution and cost? Thanks for updating
Didn't see this question till now.

To answer your question, it was the starter. The Starter Gears teeth were all grinded off. It also broke a tooth of the Reduction Gear. Brand new OEM Starter is $450. I lucked out and got a very nice condition on ebay for $40. New OEM Reduction Gear is around $160. Again I lucked out and found another bikes used one that matched perfectly for $20.
I have all of it installed and ready to go but now the bike is not starting and need to find time to go and troubleshoot that. The bike sat for 13 months with old gas and now it could have clogged the injectors. So IDK when I will have a chance now that it's really cold here in NYC.

Thank you, Man! Great advice. You are the 2nd person who has told me the same thing.

Yes, I am going every time I get the chance, like today, and troubleshoot even just for an hour or so. I ordered the Injector cleaning kit from Amazon for $12. I plan to just pull the injectors out and clean everything. I have never cleaned them on this bike or any other bike in that matter. And I have owned this bike since 2017.

Okay, keep you all posted.
