SV 650 vs Street Triple

Gents,
My girlie is thinking about getting a bike... I've heard a LOT of good things about the SV 650 being a great bike to learn on, not too powerful, but more than enough to have fun on. So what do you think the "Street Triple" will be like? Do you think it'll be as user friendly as the SV, or will it be more sports oriented? I've heard that the engine will be tuned down from the 675, so it might be another viable choice... whaddaya say?

I like the Street 3....Suzuki looks cheap to me. Ugly lines...... :barf:
you think so? I kinda like it... also, anyone know what the street triple will be priced at? I've heard rumors, but nothing solid...
Around..... "MSRP of $7,999 (US)"
I think the SV is a great bike! And cheap too, so what's not to like fer me?!? ;D I agree I'd rather have the Street Triple, but fer a starter bike, I wouldn't drop that kinda dough on a new bike. I'd look fer a used SV fer dirt cheap. :slap: ;D

Right there is the best advice you can get Ryan
Used SV. If she gets good at riding she'll want to upgrade anyway. Plus, there are piles of aftermarket parts for the SV, while the parts for the 675 are slowly increasing, but will never be anywhere near the support the big four have for their bikes.
yea Cheap, that's what I'm thinking.. and if (when) she drops it, it won't be nearly as costly as the Street Triple... was just looking on fleabay and they have some for cheap... only thing is you never know what you're buying on there, so I'm a bit pensive about buying a bike online.

The SV650 is a good bike . But if I were you I'd get the Street 3 . Then your Speed Triple and the new Street 3 can bang in the garage and make little Triumph cubs and live happily ever after . :lh: :lh: :lh: :lh: :lh: :lh: :jerkoff: :lh: :lh: :lh: :lh: :jerkoff: :lh: :lh: :lh: :lh: :lh: :jerkoff: :horse:
i road with a couple guys that had an SV out in AZ.....they rode pretty good....one guy had a Sato exhaust...sounded good too
Roxy, the street 3 is the bike I WANT her to get, just have a hard time convincing myself that it would be the better choice...

If she is a competent rider already then get the bike you want if she is a raw beginner then get something cheap that is unless you have lots of money to spend on mistakes. :smitty:
she is far from competent, as she has never twisted a throttle before with the exception of a 4 wheeler on the beach... and I sure don't have money to burn. Hell, if I did, there would be a shiny MV in my garage that I don't have... :'( :'(

Get a beater. Let her drop it and not worry about it. Maybe get one out of a junk yard and do the rebuilt title thing. My neighbor got an SV650 out of a scrap yard and fixed it up and it is his track bike.
well if Triumph made a $5,000 bike, then we wouldn't have this problem now, would we? :fingure: :fingure: ;D ;D ;D
Learn on a bike you are gonna drop at one point or another..GS 500 or EX 500 come to mind or something cheaper. Don't "learn" on a new bike.... :squid:
The wife's SV has been down twice now, not counting the previous owner, No damage. Some scratches that'll be painted this winter. The SV is a great bike, i'd go with it not knowing what the street triple will be like. You already covered the big points, price, part availability.... Plus the SV is fun to ride, she won't out grow an SV for a while. Shit the battery on my Speed Triple was dead this morning, so I took the SV to Miller for the AMA qualifying. It'll hold it's own. Go with an SV, it's a great bike.

Mmmmmmm.....bike porn :lh:
Another used SV vote!

Salvaged title is a great possibility too!
