well folks, as some of you know, my speedy's been at the shop for a month and a half now, and they've just told me that even though the warranty work to replace the crank bearings they found in my oil has been approved, they "can't get to it" till the first or second week of june. which seals the deal on me getting rid of this bike, they fix it, i trade it in.... so i've been thinking about what i should trade it for, and i saw this, and heaven's sweet light shone upon my dome.....the ktm 690 sm

just talked to a dealer, they'll take my speedy on trade, they're only getting one, and it's mine...... i think.....any thoughts?

I had the oportunity to ride that bike during one weekend...

It runs great. Although I have to admit that I do not like the design of this front fender and these pipes that look a little like an old oven chimney.

I prefer the performance and the look of the SuperDuke....Or even better the SuperDuke R..... ;D

Just my two cents. ;)

SOME people can break an anvil with a rubber mallet. ;)
I think it looks awesome, but unless you absolutely need to have a supermoto, take the superduke instead. The new R model is the bomb.

Isn´t the R version a limited edition and sold out since mounths?

By the way...didn`t Triumph want to release a limited "R" Version of our Speedys 1050???

I wish!

Triumph tends to do a black paint job and call it a "Special Edition".

They did but all the R&D money went into JR's warranty work. :fingure:

my bike is how they figured out they need a special edition, to handle up to real riding....
what happened to corner's bike"
I was thinking about the duke, but honestly, i have no money, and the next bike i'm looking at has to be within a grand of trade in on the triple, and i do mostly city riding, and i wouldn't mind a lighter bike with better cornering, i don't need to go as fast as i have been, don't need the tickets, so abike that tops out earlier doesn't bother me.
ps, dax, design aside, how did you like the ride? was it light and nimble? still highwayable?
I owned the KTM 640 SMC.Got rid of it.

Pros:It`s fun and torquey and Ultra-light
Good for around the block

Cons:
Bad for travel
Vibration gets old FAST,
too much suspension travel for real world streets
Ultra Light(Wind will throw you around on more than backroad type highways)

I've got a 625 SMC, I ride it most of the time, Fun factor+++

It does vibrate, From what I understand on the write ups I've read they have the vibration handled pretty well.
I don't mind the vibes, You will out corner your buddies on whatever they ride.

Wheelies are real fun on these too!

Check out the 950 SM... Sa-WEET!
I love the 990 Super duke R also, I would have to say, The super duke would be my replacement... Only because I already have a kick ass supermoto.

SV 650 might be the better bike for you.
Upside: Cheaper than the KTM, easier to find a dealer, and that Suzuki is a favorite for those who want a fun track bike.

Downside: Not as 'exclusive' as the KTM.

KTM's a company on the move. They are the number two motorcycle manufacturer in Europe. In fact, BMW is thinking of buying Husqvarna to stay ahead of those Austrians.

Thats what JR needs......a bike that wheelies easier than a Speed Triple
Literally, no offense intended - I think this is the perfect bike for you.

;D
JRuss, try this on before you buy.....

It's the Duke III, with less of a proboscus problemo...dig?

All the cool of a 690, less of a vibrator, much nicer front end, still looks super moto, but doesn't weigh what a 950sm weighs.

Or take a look at the Hypermotard from Ducati (fugly motors). That'll be in the states this summer, so they say.

Cheep's is yellow with black streamers on the handlebars.
Trade-in? That shit sounds like a lemon law return to me! Get your money back. They'll probably shaft you on the trade-in unless you've already got that angle covered.
