Ok, I joined the forum without having the bike yet. Yeah, I am a S3 groupie at the moment.
I had a Honda VTX1800 and sold it 2 summers ago and now I want something sportier, but comfortable to ride.
I was considering the average crotch rocket, but have fallen in love with the style of this bike.

So, I am considering making the plunge over the next month or so. I am going to look at a local dealer this week, and maybe test ride one if it's available.

Here are some questions I have...

1) Ride comfort? Does the S3 make you ride forward on your arms or is it more upright?
2) How hard going from a sport cruiser to this style of bike, do any of you have both?
3) Did you consider the ducati monster when buying your bike?

Thanks, and this was my first post here!

1.) Upright position, although your feet are in the standard sportbike position.
2.) Can't help you there
3.) No, Speedy was way cheaper than a competitive model. Personally I was holding out for a KTM Superduke but ran out of patience.

Amendment to 1.) I assume everyone has an upright riding position, but then again I have a 79" "wingspan" so results may vary.

Its very comfotable to ride, even for extended periods. Though if you plan on touring I would personaly invest in an aftermarket seat. I own a Vstar 1100 and didnt really have any issues with riding my triple. The only problem i have is when I get back on the Vstar I tend to scrape my floorboards trying to lean into corners. As far as other bikes that are comparable.... I looked at the buels and ducs, but they just didnt do it for me. You wont be disapointed, and if you get the chance to demo one you will completly understand why.

+1... I have only ridden my HD once or twice since buying my S3........ Riding position is great, the only downside is wind blast gets tiring after a while.

Thank you for the advice guys, I really appreciate it and this seems like a fun bike community.
As far as wind blasts, I am not concerned much with them as I road my vtx with no windscreen and wore a half helmet..... I think I have the strongest neck muscles in the world! :)

I am going to stop and look at a bike today. I may ride it, but may have to resist the urge as i am a bad impulse buyer.

Are these bikes normally hard to find? I went to one dealer and they didn't have one on the floor! I think we only have 1 dealer in the Nashville area who carries Triumph.

I would consider driving out of state, but they should have them here!
I didn't talk to a sales guy, so I will assume they are available. I stopped by on my lunch break, so I didn't have time to wait and they were busy and had people out to lunch.

Either way, I will prolly try again today or Sat.

I did look at a monster, but it wasn't for sale... I would rather have the s3.

Drive on over to Chattanooga. www.southernpowersports.com
They have the BEST prices and my purchase with them was the most trouble free I have had buying ANY vehicle. (I saved over $1K after paying for fuel from Illinois and a night in a hotel) Of course, there is something to be said for having a quality relationship with your local dealer, luckily my local was out of them and didn't get any more for 3 months after I purchased. I talked to them before my purchase and they were cool with me going elsewhere since I knew I wanted one and they knew the wait was indeterminate.

I used to ride in Nashville a few years back. Had a job in Brentwood for @ 6 months. Bought my old Ducati 750SS from Castle Power Sports up on the north side when they were still trading in that brand. Lots of good roads to ride around there. Great memories too!

I bet you'll be fine with the ergonomics of the Speed Triple. Your legs will be folded up a bit, but not so bad as would be the case with most sportbikes. If you're O.K. with the wind blast riding a VTX, then you should have no problems at all on the Speed Triple. The great thing about having standard tubular handlebars is that there are lots of different bends, lengths and styles available in the aftermarket if the stock bars don't suit you.

Good luck with it!

Thanks scratch, I had a friend here locally that told me the same thing about the s3. I guess it's meant to be! :)

I miss riding and hopefully I will be on 2 wheels again really soon.

Now I have to have a talk with my wife....
