Tinted helmet visor

I'm thinking of buying a darker helmet visor for my Arai. Does any one have the dark smoke visor and is it too dark (ie. pain in the ass for riding at dusk). Any input on the light smoke, is it enough tint to give the rider relief from the sun without wearing sun shades under the helmet?

I have a dark sheild and still where dark glasses as well throught the day.
It is a pain in the arse in poor light or at night though.
agreed...i have a gold tinted one....awesome during the day....shield up at night and bugs in the eyes...they need to make some transition ones

I have a dark smoked one. I love it during the day because I don't have to wear sunglasses. But when it starts getting dark you can't really see anything. I usually carry my clear shield in my backpack if I know I'm going to be riding closer to dusk.
I've had the best luck with the mirrored (silver) shields. Light enought to wear at night, dark enough so you don't have to squint in the day time. ;D
i like the light smoke for day and night use
Polar Optics and several other companies make removable tinted visor strips that are easy to install and remove.

Some are even pre-cut for specific visors - http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=1629

Funny you should mention that, my helmet has transition lenses available for it, but I was wondering if anyone has ever tried them before?
I just keep a clear shield on my Scorpion. Its so hot down here, I usually ride with the visor up off the interstate. I wear these safety glasses from Home Depot

Great wind protection, decent tint (picture's not tinted), impact rated. About $9

At night I wear aviator-style prescription glasses (I'm old).

Scorpion makes a 'transition' shield for the EXO-400 and EXO-700, about $69.

For me, its glasses under the visor, as tinting doesn't do me any good when its up.

ya need to get out in the mornings....over here (SWFL) it is great riding weather...that is til all the uber oldies and snowbirds hit the road and the sun starts blazing down
Limebone, I got a Caberg Justissimo thing that has a "inner shield" that's tinted. they have that feature on several helmets.

I swear by this feature now. I'm not absolutely nuts about the helmet overall. I like Shoei's the best. But I think other manufacturers ought to bring the inner shield out on their helmets. It's much better than dealing with swapping shields or keeping up with sun glasses.

:afro: Light Smoked, during the day its good and at night its not to bad! Kbc and Suomy
I go with the dark tint, and exceedingly bright headlights :)

Not much night riding in the land of the midnight sun.

any link to these??? never heard of them
I just have a clear one and wear sunnies. This way when you come to a town and have to slow down you can lift your visor for a bit of air without getting a bug in your eye,and still use it at night or in poor light, ride on.
I just put the dark tint shield on my Arai Corsair-they are easy to change (see the new video on their web site) and what does it matter unless you are on a trip or whatever. I like the dark tint as I have sensitve eyes, plus I do not want the whoever to see how old I am!! Besides they are cool.
The medium tint does not do the trick for me.
I am waiting on the new Akuma visor that is supposed to be the in thing as far as light changing ability. It is $75.00 so I hope it works (if I ever get it) It will go on my F-14
Akuma "Navy Pilot" helmet -the one with the lights front and rear!! Red jet engine exhaust out the back and a map light in front to use when you are looking for your keys.
My son and I have tried about allof the available shields that are supposed to change density and are not happy with any of them. I have aSchuberth with the flip downshade but it hurts my ears to wear it. (I know, so cut off your ears!) Problems!!!!
Check out Scorpion's new helmet, available this summer.

Includes an integrated sun visor and adjustable on the fly cheek pads.

Unfortunately I had to buy a new helmet this last weekend. Otherwise I would have waited.
