I was thinking about getting a small cable lock or something similar.

Any suggestions?

I also would like to come up with a plan. Heading to Laguna for moto gp and don't want to have to carry it around the whole time.
i was thinking of riggin something from under the seat like on my prev. bikes
Retractable ski locks work well.

I'm gonna look at rigging something up under the seat too.
Go to your local Police Department and get one of the free Gun locks they offer. They are small and have a rubberized cable so it won't ding your helmet. They fit great under the seat or in a bag, and when it is not on your bike, LOCK UP YOUR GUN!

I use a length of sheathed cable that is mounted under the seat. Not hard to fabricate, and cheap.

Perfect, Thanks. :drink:
I was thinking of using the exhaust mounting rings under the seat.
I've been hooking the d rings through the flip out arms under the pillon on my '02 and locking the seat back down. Seems to work for me.

(on the HD I just hang the $20 skid lid on the right peg andwalk away)
I find that the small Kryptonite U-lock that I use on my front disc brake will lock up the helmet nicely and keep it just off the ground.
I DO miss the built-in helmet locks that so many bikes have! And since I just refuse to carry (yet) another key, I've settled on using a cheap (under $2 on ebay) combination luggage lock. I have it hung on the wire guide in front of the handlebars on my S3, and lock the D rings to exactly the same place. Before you mention that these locks are pretty crappy, and the wire guide isn't exactly Fort Knox, realize that it's easy enough to clip the D rings and substitute one of the quick releases commonly available. If I were parked in The Bronx, I'd probably tend to carry the lid with me... ;D
I am using a gun lock as well. If I ride with my wife I hook up the left one on the passanger peg and the right on on the exhaust mounting ring, that was it does not touch the exhaust (low mount)...
on the plus side the locks are branded 'BERETTA'... an additional deterrant not to mess with my staff.

hmm, this is an interesting idea. cop shop is right down the street. however, why do a i feel like if i ask for one of these they are going to look at me, eyes very wide open, and say, oh yeah? probably partially related to the fact that the gun laws in chicago are very strict and having a hangun is pretty much not possible. seems like the cops would take a keen interest in any kind of gun around here (handgun or rifle). [email protected]'t! how can i get a hangun and a gun lock?
jdub,
I think you might find that the person working the desk is not really interested in your gun, and may just give you the lock without any issues. Owning a gun in Chicago is legal, if they ask questions, tell them that it is not their business and that owning (not carrying) is a constitutional right.
The gun lock is good but I keep thinking the Cops are going to run out of locks because I took one and some one gets accidentaly shoot because I couldn't spend Five bucks! Fuck it I'll go to the police Station! They can also get shoot if they try and steal my helmet!!! :horse:
