Instrument Cluster and ECU communications

How do the cluster and the ECU communicate with each other on an 06 speedy? Following the wiring diagram i noticed that it is a two wire BUS and was wondering what the normal signals should look like and how to read them (oscilloscope, voltmeter, ex). I am having issues with the cluster not receving a tach, speedo, and neutral light signal. I have checked for a short to power/ground on the BUS but it all comes back clean.

Thanks! ;D

ECU <-> gauges communicate over a CAN bus network via sending data packets. Similar traffic as you would have on a normal computer network. Not much you can test for with traditional equipment, except wire continuity of the 2 wires between gauges and ECU.

If the wires test out OK, I am pretty sure the circuitboard inside the gauges has partially fried due to being flooded with (condensed) water that on the original clock design likes to accumulate onto the bottom edge of the cluster.

If continuity tests out as bad, the short/break is, like others already noted in the other thread, at the metal clamp on the headstock that is holding wire bundle down. Even if the outer plastic is OK, some of the wires inside might be broken.

It is canbus from 2005 onwards. The older v1 Keihin ECU just lets the starter engage even if it does not see gauges online on the network. v2 Keihin ECU will refuse ground from starter solenoid if OEM gauges are not responding.

955s were still old school gauges with separate signal wire for all functions.
