i have a 2013 s3 and was going through all the setup options. there is no option for me to turn off the abs even though it tells me in my manual that I do. is this something that can only be accessed after the break in or am i missing something?

When you are going through the options is your engine stop switch in the on or off position? I'm not sure that option is available in the off position, the bike resets the ABS to on whenever you turn the bike off and back on. What's that round thing as your avatar, this ain't to beemer forum?

Edit to say: Once you verify your engine stop switch is on, cycle through the options and go into the setup. Once in setup cycle through until you see ABS and hit button B and turn it off.

that must be exclusive to the S3R and SE models. that or I'm too stupid to find it in my cluster. I really don't see a need to disable the ABS unless you plan on being an icy hot stunta for the day. if you truly are faster on the track without ABS, you are likely a professional who has a team of technicians to disable the ABS.

my engine stop switch never leaves the run position. I go through everything under settings and there is no option for abs.

and I work on bmw's all day, but i just sold my bmw for the triumph (why i'm here)

yeah mine doesnt have the abs in there. I setup a new tiger 800xc with abs and that has it on there straight away. It's not big deal for me right now, but i'd like the option in the future.

it will also light up your ABS light, which may or may not need to be cleared by a dealer before the ABS works again. I don't think tune ecu can get into ABS diagnostics.
someone please correct me if I am wrong.

so me and the triumph guy at the dealership talked to one of the triumph usa guys. we hooked up the bike to triumph's diagnostic system and went into the icluster settings. The bike was set-up in UK spec. We switched it to US and then also had to switch an option to even show the abs option in the dash. Once the new dash configuration was setup and put in the bike everything is good. abs option is under setup like it should be.

on a side note. It seems like triumphs diagnostic system is more user friendly than bmw's moss.

All abs triumphs turn abs back on when key is turned off and then back on again. You have to go back into settings and turn off abs every time the key is turned back on.

I think every car & bike made with the ability to turn ABS, traction control, etc. off will reset to on after the key is turned off. It's only logical, except for a racer or stunta I can't imagine anybody wanting a different default behavior. I just want the ability to turn it off easily, not have to navigate 6 menus to get to it.

What I don't understand is why the the option is disabled in "Brit Mode".

I understand wanting to control the systems on your bike, but can anyone tell me exactly why you would want to deactivate ABS on a street bike? It's probably safe to say that we all know the system doesn't even function until you lock up a wheel under braking. Set aside stunting and drifting, what do any of you want to lock up your brakes for? I personally do not find it fun.

its mostly about being able to do what the owners manual saying we should be able to do. To me the triumph abs feels a lot more intrusive than other abs systems I've experienced. Mostly on the rear brake. My last bike was a motard so I like going pretty hard on the rear brake, but In less than 200 miles i've already felt triumphs abs kick in on the rear in a situation that I know the rear wasn't going to lock up in. For street riding I'll always have my abs on, but for hard riding or track riding i'll probably be turning it off. triumphs abs is a good street system, but it's nothing like say bmw's s1000rr race abs.

Just got my 10000klm service done on my 2012 speed triple r and asked the service manager to enable the ABS on/off setting. He said the first time they did it they had heaps of trouble finding it but said it is a function in the latest firmware upgrade. In Australia it has to be requested and does not get enabled at a normal service. The ABS defaults to the "on" setting and needs to be turned off at start up every time you want it off.

i doubled the miles on my bike today and got a little more familiar with the abs. was on some back roads and i'm going about 80 towards a corner. a truck starts backing out of a driveway and I go around him in the other lane. I had to get on the brakes pretty hard to make the corner and the abs did kick on front and rear. I dont know if my wheels would have locked up or not. I may have spoken too soon though, the abs did let me get on the brakes a good bit. Hopefully thousands of more miles to come will let me test more limits.
